"This book was such a hoot! I got a real kick out of it.
About a woman named Helen who's having an affair with a married man for 4 years. Then he shows up on her doorstep one day saying he's left his wife & kids for her, and moves into her tiny flat. Then she realizes she doesn't want him anymore and can't get rid of him. She doesn't want to be too rude tho, or hurt his feelings, but she wants him OUT.
I thought it was funny, and hope to read more by her."
"Be careful what you wish for - you might get it! Helen has been having an affair with a married man for four years. She has spent many evenings and holidays alone because he was with his family. She has a big row with Matthew and for a few days, she doesn't hear fom him. When a knock on the door reveals Matthew with all his things declaring that he has moved out of his house and is now moving in with her, she wonders if this is really what she wants. How can you throw him out, however, when you have been telling him for four years that this is what you want! It is interesting to watch Helen as she tries to find her way, realizing that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence."
"The characters are not likeable in the slightest, which meant I had no empathy for them throughout the book. A bitch who enjoyed having an affair and who didn't give a second though to the poor wife and kids involved and a sad middle age man in the midst of a mid-life crisis... and i'm supposed to feel smypathetic when she suddenly gets lumped with the bloke full time? Not likely. As chick lit goes it was a readable storyline but poorly developed particularly when other authors of this genre (*cough Jodi Picoult cough*) manage to create not only readable storylines, but characters who make you feel real emotion.(as opposed to indifference)"
"I was surprised that I enjoyed this book, especially since I don't normally run for a "girly" book when I choose things to read.
This book rang very true to life and I urge anyone be it woman or man who is either contemplating having an affair while married or being involved with someone else who is married to read this book. What is does highlight is the pain and destruction infidelity causes. It is not a romantic love story and can only end in tears. What it really shows, is regardless of how much chemistry you think exists between you and that other person, no matter how much you believe that you are soulmates, psychic connection, , etc, it's ***NEVER*** going to be even if he/she leaves his partner for you because you were not their first choice but rather, simply being used as an escape because they lack the ability to face up to their own unhappiness and they needed the attention. Doesn't matter how much you try to pretend it's something else in your head; it's still all about them and never, you regardless of what they say. If you're that lonely and desperate for a relationship and you're single, stay away from the married unhappy ones who are using you to cheat on their husband/wife because no matter how good it seems, it's not real and will never be even if they are eventually single because your relationship was built on their selfishness not love; so save yourself the pain and trouble, and find someone who does not belong to someone else and who is free to completely love you and not just use you to provide what they should be getting but can't get from their current partner. So what if he/she leaves their partner or their partner dies or they get divorced, they're not going to be yours since your relationship was based on a lie and a sham in the first place. No matter how good the alusion seems, you deserve better. If you're unhappy and married and that desperate, either work on it or end it: don't cheat, because it will ruin what ever relationship you have since you cannot be trusted for obvious reasons. And--as this book shows, you're going to screw up your kids' lives as well as your marriage by messing around too."
