I did the cardinal no-no and read a book out of sequence. While I was reading it, I thought, "Gee there sure seems to be a lot of history that she glosses over." It really didn't detract from the story line. I thought it was well intertwined without being like a soap opera, half of it is rehash and the other is new.
It kept me relatively entertained and I plowed right through it. I think some of the relationships are a little weak just due to the short nature of character's interactions but in the end I find myself wanting to read the next book in the series rather than the preceeding ones.
