"I did not enjoyed the second installment in this series as much as I did the firt book in it, Jacob.
I got a bit bored at the beggining. It took me half the book to get a bit onterested in this couple. The chemestry between them wasn't too stong. I did not felt a strong conection between them. And in my opinion, Guideon wasn't too interesting.
Although I did like a lot to know more about the Lycans and the vampires. I found really intriguing this new paranormal world that Jacquelyn Frank has created. Very original.
But what call my atention the most was Elijah and the Lycan queen. I hope that their love gets well develop and not as this one did."
"The heroine in this one seemed less Mary Sue-ish than the one in the first book of this series, so that was good. I got distracted by trying to figure out how the "soul mate" thing works in this universe; some people have died after being separated from their fated partner but the main characters in this one were separated for years and seemed to suffer no particular ill effects, so it's not clear what the trigger is that starts the clock ticking. I also got distracted by the heroine's name, Legna, short for Magdelegna-I kept saying "leg-na" in my head rather than "lena" and thinking that was a rather clunky name to saddle one's heroine with. There was also a lot of time spent on the couple from the first book, and a fair bit of time setting up the next book (well, books-I spotted at least three heroes in there)."
"This book was a little bland, and a really slow start. It took too long for me to be charmed by Gideon (over half the book), because he came off as an old man and next to the young and vibrant Legna, it just didn't work for me. I know hair color is not a sign of age for them, but the fact that his hair was white did not help matters. I liked the "lovers with a past" aspect. (The Intro to the Lycanthrope Queen was exciting. Elijah has got to be a good one) I am not a fan of her love scenes. It really feels like 5 pages worth of macking, and she doesn't keep you in the moment. There are tangents of deep thought about why they are the way they are, and what they should be feeling instead of lust and desire."
"Iwill probably be in the minority with this book, but as Frank's Book One (Jacob) in the Nightwalkers series, "Gideon" is much the same: trying to read it is very difficult. The wording and conversations between the characters are very cold and mechanical. Other than mostly dialogue and descriptions of inner longer or angst for our two main characters, there is not much more going on. If you are a fan of nice love scenes also, there is not much more going on at that end either.
Gideon is that cold but beautiful hero that all women want and dream about. He is the oldest and strongest of the Nightwalkers, a type of demon who protects his society. He soon finds he has a mate, which is Magdelegena (what a name!) the sister to the demon king. Even though these two are at odds with each over, they find out that they are imprinted from birth to be each other's mates. So even though they don't like each other, they lust and care for each other soon after they find out this information and simply they don't fight it, well for the reason is "just because".
Of course you have some action and the constant turmoil. We also have vampire and werewolves coming out of the blue along with those nasty enemies who have it in for our demon race. I truly wished this series would be more appealing because it takes skill to write a fantasy world like this. Frank falls short on that end. The overall plot and drama of these demon soul mates loses interest quickly.
Perhaps if you are a fan of Christine Feehan's "Dark Series", you maybe a fan of this one also. Otherwise I give this a major pass."
