I had a health scare in 2007. It was horrible. My body was constantly in pain. I had been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (cystitis means a bladder infection, but interstitial cystitis means that there is no infection present, jst all the pain and symmptoms.)
When I read this book, I realized that my health problems that could be traced back almost 2 years. I had several respitory infections that triggered my asthma, that were treated with anti biotics and steroid shots. Then I had digestive symptoms for several months. Then, after getting the flu, I started having trouble staying awake, which led to depression. I went to a doctor for that, but then had started getting migraines. For monthes I had migraine headaches at least twice a week. and Then the Interstitial cystitis.
But this book showed me that all of these could be connected. The antibiotics and steroid shots both diminish the good bacteria that we need in our digestive systems. If theses aren't repopulated after antibiotics or steroid shots, or viruses, then bad bacteria and yeast can repopulate the gut. These bad things in the gut can produce toxins and highjack nutrients away from your body.
The anti-yeast diet is no fun, but it helped me a lot. a year and a half later, I try to keep my carbs down and am more aware of food allergies and how I am affected by the things I eat. Digestion is back to normal. The migraines have gone from 2-3 a week to once a month. I feel more awake and aware than I had felt for a couple of years. I was really foggy headed for quite a while. I'm no longer depressed. It also led me to being more knowledgable about the bio-medical treatments that have been helping my autistic son.
