"Chronicles an ATF operation to infiltrate the Arizona Hells Angels. A career agent with a family and a local rookie cop spend a year and a half trying to become full fledged members. A turned criminal who agreed to join the operation had to be removed near the end because he was about to crack. A female agent joined to give the lead agent a reason to not bang all the tweaker groupies hanging around and ended up being a crucial asset by getting info from the "old ladies". Any of them could have been murdered at any moment for the slightest mistake.
After the operation, the prosecutors bungle the case, no one receives major jail time. None of the infiltrators received adequate protection afterward.
Fairly well written, there's a huge cast of characters that aren't always kept clear, mostly the bikers. There are some big goofs about guns in here, which brings the fact checking into question. There have been several books written about this operation, including one by the lead agent (Jay Dobyns) who's gone public hoping the exposure increases his family's safety. Since protecting them isn't in the ATF's budget.

"After risking his life over and over, breaking up his marriage, and compiling a bounty of evidence against the Hells Angels, the undercover officer had his cases weakened, diluted, and tossed. The ATF mishandled much of the prosecution. As a result the undercover officer lives under a death threat and isn't protected under witness protection program. Quite a depressing ending; makes his sacrifice seem like a total waste of time."
