Some things should live their natural life and then die with grace and dignity. Spenser, Hawk and Susan are figments of Parker's imagination and should have been allowed the dignity to pass with him.
Ace Adkins just doesn't cut it. He simply isn't the intellectual equal of Parker and it shows in the story line and in the characterizations. Overwritten in most parts it hurts to read. Spencer and Hawk are doing things they would have never done and, oh, just take my word for it or don't,
But if you absolutely have to have your Spenser fix, look for a used copy. It will hurt less.
