This book is a wonderful read for adults and children. As a mature adult it awoke the sense of adventure I had as a child, and maybe still have as an adult. I have sent it on to my grandchildren a girl age 9 and boy age 7. I hope they don't test the adventure in reality though.
A real classic. everyone should read it.

A great read for all ages, this is the story of a young girl who runs away from home with her little brother and lives in a museum. One of the most creative and entertaining books I have ever read in my life, I was enthralled to learn the logistics of life in a museum after hours. I loved this book.
Publishers Weekly, 2002-11-11 For 35 years, even readers who have never traveled to New York City have visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, courtesy of Claudia Kincaid, heroine of From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. Winner of the 1968 Newbery Medal, this novel charts one girl's mission to run away from her straight-As life to somewhere beautiful-the Met. In the process, she becomes obsessed with uncovering the secrets of a breathtaking statue. A 35th-anniversary dust jacket and a new afterword by the author caps this adventure that has captivated readers for more than a quarter-century. (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
