Ask most women whether they have the right to equality at work and the answer will be a resounding yes, but ask the same women whether they'd feel confident asking for a raise, a promotion, or equal pay, and some reticence creeps in. The statistics, although an improvement on previous decades, are certainly not in women's favour - of 197 heads of state, only twenty-two are women. Women hold just 20 percent of seats in parliaments globally, and in the world of big business, a meagre eighteen of the "Fortune" 500 CEOs are ... Show more

Empowering!

by EDoughty on Aug 21, 2014

I recommend this book for all women that strive to be excellent! I've never felt so empowered and normal! This book has changed me as a professional, wife and mother. I am so grateful to Sheryl for being so honest and sharing her stories. I laughed, I cried, I learned and I have been encouraged to not be afraid! I will read this book more than once for sure.

New Feminism

by Ruah13 on Jul 8, 2013

Sandberg's writing is smooth and accessible. She begins with a question: What would you do if you were not afraid? Interspersing personal stories and reflections with those of others as well as studies on women in the workplace, she presents a rather bleak assessment of women leadership in the business world. She proceeds to give reasons and directions for women to pursue leadership positions. Her positive, forward-looking and practical steps can be tweaked to apply to any professional position. A great read!
