It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. In King City, the young King Nash is clinging to the throne, while rebel lords build armies to unseat him. War is coming. I eagerly looked forward to continuing the saga, but the author went off in another direction with this story and I was uncomfortable with it for quite some time before I got into the rhythm and characters. Once I decided that this was more a stand-alone story, having little to do with the world of the first set of characters, I enjoyed the book. I've finished the third book now, and can see how the characters tie in, but the connection is not very satisfying. I haven't discovered yet whether or not there will be a fourth book, but the 1st and 3rd were the best of the three.
