Moser, Barry. 4to. cloth, dust jacket. (viii), xiv, (vi), 254, (2) pages. First trade edition reprinting the Pennyroyal Press version originally printed as a limited edition by Harold P. McGrath. English novelist Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's (1797-1851) classic tale is combined with 52 illustrations by American wood engraver Barry Moser. The text is based on the 1818 edition in the Smith College Library. Calligraphy stamped in red on the black cover is the work of Yvette Rutledge. Moser writes of this work: "It is my favorite because...it holds together as a unit, a coherent whole with type, text, and images well-balanced and well paced. Frankenstein marks the first instance of the use of multiple color block prints in a Pennyroyal book as well as the first collaboration with Joyce Carol Oates" who wrote the afterword (Pennyroyal checklist 29). Embossed ownership stamp in corner of title page.
