Near Fine in very good jacket. Stated first printing, 1971. Signed by Kinnell. Additionally, "Happy birthday, Lynn! ' with a small drawing of a candle, is underneath Kinnell's signature, in blue ink (as opposed to the black ink of the signature). Holograph correction to the Rilke quote on dedication also likely in Kinnell's hand. Book is near fine, with a few tiny freckles to the black cloth, jacket is very good with light rubbing to tips and joints, and some minor fading to spine. the recipient, Lynn Conroy was a legendary English professor at Seton Hill in Greensburg. She remembers that Kinnell came to give a reading in Pittsburgh and brought a number of 'pre-signed' copies of his latest book, and then inscribed 'Happy birthday, Lynn' etc. under the signature, with the pen he had, explaining the color difference. We don't know if the inscription is in Kinnell's hand or not, but sounds good to us!
