Helpful but sometimes difficult to understand the writers desire for happiness or control. Perhaps control is happiness for some.

Great for discussion group

We have taken a chapter a week and pulled it apart with appreciation. Are we happier? Well- we sure learned that it is up to "US".

Surprising and not Preachy

by Carolee on Jun 30, 2011

I resisted reading this book, although have been reading Ms. Rubin's blog for months. She is incredibly honest about her feelings, which is the biggest surprise about this book. Although I did not immediately start my own happiness project nor make any resolutions, this book did help me to slow down and look at things and other people. The big lesson that you can only change yourself was presented repeatedly, which is an excellent reminder. Worth a read.

Great Read

This book has lots of ideas for being happy. I don't think most of us have the time or money to do what she did for a year...but she is a writer who does research for her books and she does have the time since she has resources that most of us don't have. And yet, I found it thought stimulating and made me want to put some new ideas into action and after all, if you can get that from a book that's easy to read - it's worth it!
