    "The Venona Secrets" is a thorough compendium of Soviet spy activity in the US, from the 20s through the 50s. It presents not only proof of such activities, as gathered from decrypted transmissions, but breaks a few icons, as well. One might be surprised, for example, to learn that Harry Hopkins, FDR's de facto co-president, had loyalties to a government other than that of the US.
