Patrick Juola received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995, specializing in computational psycholinguistics. He worked as a postdoc in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford from 1995-8, then accepted a teaching position at Duquesne University.
