Anton Chekov

Russian writer Anton Chekov (1860-1904) is widely considered the father of the modern short story and the modern play. He wrote hundreds of short stories, many of which have become literary classics, and his plays, including The Sea Gull, Uncle Vanya, The Three Sisters, and The Cherry Orchard are still revived and performed today.
