Jorge Amado

Jorge Amado--novelist, journalist, lawyer--was born in 1912, the son of a cacao planter, in Ilheus, south of Salvador, the provincial capital of Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon. His first novel, Cacao, was published when he was nineteen.
