About this title: Flutist Elisabeth Williams and guitarist William Simcoe are musicians locally active in the area of Albany, NY; Williams' resumé touts her performances at "coffee houses, art galleries, and churches." Given this background, the disc is an unusual one -- not for the musicianship displayed but for the enterprising choice of repertoire. The program does not consist exclusively or even mostly of tango music, and some of it will be unfamiliar even to listeners who know the guitar repertory from which it is drawn and has been arranged by Simcoe and other guitarists. Several non-tango Argentines are represented, including Abel Fleury ("the poet of the guitar") and Ariel Ramírez, known mostly for the Misa criolla but on the evidence of the little tune Alfonsina y el mar well worth investigating further.
