Il Trovatore is one of Verdi's most vocally demanding scores, calling for a stand-and-deliver quartet of lead singers. In his third complete opera recording for Decca, Andrea Bocelli adds to his two previous efforts—Puccini evergreens Tosca and La bohème—and delivers a musically solid and decently sung package that—because of his star power—appeals to a broad audience. The talented young conductor Steven Mercurio leads this performance with confidence and authority.
