A Unique Romance in So Many Ways

by mehaul on Oct 26, 2010

Gene Hackman acting the stooge. The multiple wedding cons that two of America's sweethearts (Weaver and Hewitt) run go counter to their acting images and give us new perspective on their talents. The producers didn't know what they had when they failed to even mention Jason Lee on the tagging of this movie. Anne Bancroft playing a nasty underhanded role is a hoot and maybe her best work since "The Graduate". Ray Liotta plays so many character twists, i wonder how he kept track of them. This film is a plain delight in a 'come on' package. But, have no fears, this is no con of a film. The DVD has behind the scenes, deleted scenes, two dubbed commentaries, one with the director, Weaver and Hewitt having a jolly time recollecting the production. And just two more things: don't play cards for any stakes with Hewitt; and, one of Weaver's ruse characters is a Russian socialite and she's forced to sing a Russian song for a dinner crowd which she does by singing "Back in the USSR" by the Beatles. The movie just has a clip of it while the whole tremendously entertaining effort is in the DVD extra deleted scenes. She sings the whole song in a Russian accent and does a few octaves of range to get it perfect!
