Dr. Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), a psychiatrist famous for her writings about serial murderers, is nearly killed by obsessed psychopath Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr.). As a result of this trauma, Helen becomes a drunken, pill-taking agoraphobic who can't leave her San Francisco apartment. After a series of bizarre murders, she calls the police suggesting that the murders were the work of a serial killer. Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and her assistant Ruben (Dermot Mulroney) believe Helen and discover, during the investigation, that the man is re-creating murders by the killers described in Helen's book: The Boston Strangler, Ted Bundy, Son of Sam and the Hillside Strangler. After Helen's secretary, Andy (John Rothmen) is murdered, Helen begins to fear for her own life. The film has a dramatic, terrifying conclusion as Helen confronts the killer and must overcome her own fears to save herself. Linda Rasmussen, Rovi Hide synopsis

Curious Cinema Cuestion, Can Cats Copy??

by mehaul on May 28, 2010

TITLE: Copycat GENRE: Dramatic/ Detective/serial killer thriller CAST: Holly Hunter, Sigourney Weaver, Dermot Mulroney, William McNamara, Will Patton and Harry Connick, Jr. PLOT: A psychopath thinks he can gain reknown by killing a writer of analysis of serial murderers. He is thwarted but orchestrates continual attempts to succeed where he failed. The Detectives seem to be one step behind all the way, until the end when... RETURN ON INVESTMENT: 9,3 of 10; Most of the way we know who's doing it, yet we still are fooled and frightened by wise and well executed cinematographic techniques and tricks of the trade to maintain our interest in the tale. The two lead actresses each turned in oscar worthy performances, but those don't go to police stories anymore and I think the Producers failed to proffer them as nominees (unverified suposition) DVD BONUS: Overdubbed commentary by the director, Jon Amiel; Production notes; and, a theatrical trailer. ADDED NOTES: We need to break Connick's killer character out of jail to see some more of the manson type maniac at work. He too should have been nominated for his presentation of the warped minded killer/cult leader.
