Drop Dead Fred ()

directed by
featuring Phoebe Cates, Rik Mayall, Marsha Mason, Tim Matheson, Carrie Fisher

Phoebe Cates stars in this bizarre comedy that wants to be the kind of stylish comic fable the likes of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice and Pee-wee's Big Adventure but ends up looking like a shabby burlesque about schizophrenia. Cates is Elizabeth, who has recently separated from her philandering husband Charles (Tim Matheson) and moved back home with her harridan mother Polly (Marsha Mason). Back in her old little-girl haunts, she regresses into childhood and recalls her imaginary childhood friend Drop Dead Fred (Rik Mayall), a nasty, ill-tempered sociopath. As a child, Elizabeth created mayhem with her imaginary pal, but Polly locked him up tight in a jack-in-the-box. But now, Elizabeth mistakenly liberates him from the jack-in-the-box, and the newly freed Drop Dead Fred proceeds to wreak more havoc than the Id Monster from Forbidden Planet -- taking vengeance upon all the people who have made Elizabeth miserable -- and then some. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi Hide synopsis

Inner Child Runs WIld

by DrLarry on Jul 8, 2010

This is a a great movie to help anyone understand how unresolved issues come out later in life. Elizabeth has severe abandonment issues caused by a controlling mother, and Fred is her only escape. When her husband starts cheating on her and treating her like a child, she retreats to her early childhood and Fred comes back to help her grow up into an adult by understanding her past more clearly. A very funny movie about how the child inside us all can help us grow up to a healthy adult.

Every body remembers having that one friend that no one could see well that is what this movie is about with a twist . Because even as an adult she still has her imaginary friend Fred who even with medication she stills sees. This movie is very funny and had me a my 2 kids laughing. It's still a hit with me even though I am an adult . This is a must watch and a great movie to have in you're collection.
