The Pageturner

Disturbingly Bland

by The Pageturner on Oct 1, 2009

I am still questioning why I watched this movie and the only way to catergorize it is with the word "bland". It was utterly predictable, almost like a rip off from Hitchcock's "Rear Window" or something. It is one of those movies that you watch when you want to fall asleep with mindless talking in the background. I wouldn't say I DESPISED it, I just can't understand why it has such a fascinating title juxtaposed with a dull story. But since I think Shia LaBeouf is a decent person, that is all that I have to say about this film.

On the Edge of My Seat

by KLH1 on Jun 19, 2008

I expected this to be a more modern, more bloody version of "Rear Window." I thought it might have the main character being a little more sarcastic than Jimmy Stewart, but I wasn't prepared for the great dialogue. First, the reason for the character's being under house arrest makes him very sympathetic and explains why he'd be bored enough to snoop on the neighbors. You feel bad he watched his father die and that he blames himself and so it's understandable that he took his rage out on his Spanish teacher. And you even forgive him for being a peeping Tom since most of us would go stark raving mad under house arrest. The best friend in the picture is hysterical. I kept hoping nothing would happen to him since he was the highlight of the film, I don't want to spoil anything, so all I'll say is the closet scene was amazing. I screamed, cried and laughed all at once. Unlike "Rear Window," you find out the suspected bad guy is really evil and yet it only makes the movie better. I actually found myself yelling, "Run!" at the TV, something i haven't done since watching "Scooby Doo" as a kid. Whether you loved the original or are just looking for a great suspense flick, this is a great movie.
