Benson (voice of Jerry Seinfeld) is your average honeybee. Despite having recently received his diploma from bee college and being virtually guaranteed a bright future in honey, Barry feels he has the skills to pursue a number of different career paths and resents the fact that his employment opportunities are strictly limited to producing the sweet nectar. Upon breaking away from the hive and developing a friendship with an insect-loving New York florist (voice of RenTe Zellweger), Barry makes the shocking discovery that human beings eat honey in mass quantities. Having finally found his calling in life, the infuriated Barry decides to sue the human race for stealing all of the honey that his fellow bees work so hard to produce. There are some nice themes in the movie, if not hurting insects is something you want to teach your kids. But overall, i didn't find this movie all that entertaining. Definitely not as funny as i would have expected - and I'm a big Seinfeld fan. However, i am an adult and prefer movies like Shrek that have some great adult humor, as well as entainment for kids. HOWEVER, my 5 and 6 year old niece and nephew loved it. This was one of their favorite DVDs this year and the animation keeps them mesmerized.
I saw a few interviews with Jerry Seinfeld (who i usually quite like), who seemed really pleased with his new movie. however, when i saw it, it wasn't as funny as i thought it would be. it had the makings of a perfectly good comedy film, but it seemed as if the writers had started with a few good gags, and then forgot to write any more when they got to the bits which weren't written to fit a joke in. i think that it started out really quite well, but it got a bit boring as it went on, and did tend to drag on a bit in places. usually, i'm quite a fan of childish things, but this one wasn't as good as i thought it might be, especially as it had such a good cast who seemed to enjoy being a part as it as much as the crew of this film.
