Do you have a toll-free number?

We don't have a toll-free number and don't accept phone orders. However, you may call 510-594-4586 for automated information about placing an order or about an existing order. And please don't hesitate to contact Customer Service. We're happy to answer via e-mail any questions you have.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We'll gladly accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, JCB Card, and PayPal for all orders transacted in U.S. dollars. For orders transacted in a different currency, the currency you choose may limit the types of credit cards you can use during checkout, as per the following policies:

  • MasterCard and Visa process all available currencies.
  • JCB Card processes U.S. dollars and Japanese yen.
  • Discover Card and American Express only process U.S. dollars.
  • PayPal is available only for purchases using U.S. dollars; we cannot accept PayPal for rentals.

You can use an ATM or other debit card bearing the Visa or MasterCard logo, just like a credit card.

How do I open an account and get a password?  

You can open a new account on the Create an Account page, or you will be prompted to open an account by placing your first order with us. During the ordering process, you will create your own Alibris password. Below are step-by-step ordering instructions.

How do I order purchase and rental items?  

  1. Find what you want: Use the Search box in the upper-right of our Web site, or use our Advanced Search page.
  2. Add items to your cart: To purchase an item, click its Add to Cart button. To rent an item, click its Rent It button. When you've finished adding selections to your Shopping Cart, review its contents, which will be organized like this:


    Rental items: If you've added items that are for rent, they will appear in a separate section. If you haven't selected rental items, this section won't appear.

    Purchase items: If you've added items that are for purchase, they will appear in a separate section. If you haven't selected purchase items, this section won't appear.

  3. Proceed to checkout: Items for purchase and items for rent are ordered via separate checkouts. If you have both rental and purchase items in your cart, complete your checkout for one (your purchases, for example) and then come back to your cart to complete the next checkout (your rentals, for example).

    Click the associated Checkout button at the bottom of the Shopping Cart to begin checking out. You'll then either log in (if you already have an account with us) or continue as a guest (with the option of creating an account, if desired, when you're finished). If you're renting books, you must create an account.

    TIP FOR YOU: You may be prompted to supply or update the following ordering information:

    Billing information: The name and address matching your ordering credit card's billing statement.

    Shipping address: Where you want your order sent, and can differ from your billing address.

    Credit card: Your card number as one complete string, with no spaces or punctuation.

  4. Verify your order information: On the Review & Place Order page, click the appropriate Change button to update shipping or payment information. To remove an item, click the cart icon in the upper-right to return to your cart and make the change. Also choose your preferred shipping method.

    TIP FOR YOU: You may enter a coupon in the Coupon Code field. Enter it as one complete string, with no spaces before or after the code; then click the Apply button. You can check its application in your Order Summary.

  5. Place your order: Once all of your order details are correct and you are ready to place your order, click the Place Your Order button at the bottom of the page. Please note that we cannot cancel an order once you click the Place Your Order button.

Please do not close or refresh your browser until your order number appears on the screen.

You're done! You'll receive e-mail confirmation that your order was placed within about an hour.

Should I use my shipping or mailing address for my order?

If you know that the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver to your shipping address, please provide your mailing address for delivery of your order.

When you place an order we check for P.O. Boxes and APOs to ensure that only the U.S. Postal Service will ship your order.

Can I have my order shipped to an address different from my own?

We can ship your order to just about any address you give us. When you place your order, you'll be asked to enter both a shipping and billing address—they don't need to be the same. See our Shipping Information page for more details.

How long do items stay in my cart?  

One or more items added to your cart during a previous visit to our site may still appear in your cart. Any item added to your cart is reserved for you for 12 hours but may be sold to others after that time. If you have to leave your Shopping Cart, it is best to return and complete your order within 12 hours.

How can I reset my password?  

If you've forgotten your password, click the Forgot My Password link where you're logging in. You will be asked for the e-mail address on your account so we may send you a new temporary password. For security reasons, we will remove any saved payment information from your account at the same time we e-mail the new password.

Once you've received your temporary password, be sure to change it to something you'll remember. Just visit Your Account and provide a new password.
