Great mystery writing, farang
by misterpickle93 on July 9, 2007Burdett's second (and, in my opinion, even better) Bangkok mystery finds Sonchai Jitpleecheep of the Royal Thai Police knee-deep in a string of grisly murders apparently involving Chanya, a beautiful prostitute for whom he secretly pines. Surrounded by all manner of vice, perversion and corruption (embodied by the hilarious Colonel Vikorn), Sonchai carries on with Buddhist equanimity. Yes, Burdett does plumb the dark side of the human psyche and the plot gets pretty preposterous, but this is five-star fun nonetheless.
