An infromative and enjoyable read

The author of nearly a dozen volumes on stamp collecting, Herman (Pat) Herst, Jr. was the most prolific and well respected stamp collecting author of his day. He had considerable knowledge of, and contact within the hobby. He was a member of as many as 81 different stamp clubs at one time. Herst was honored with the American Philatelic Society's Luff Award and was elected to Britain's Philatelic Traders Society. He writes with humor in an easy to read style. You will learn from his books, but he always makes his point using stories and anecdotes stemming from his experience as a collector, appraiser, auctioneer and dealer.
Every collector of U.S. stamps should read at least one of Pat Herst’s books. This particular book is a good choice because it is Herst's best know and most widely read book. It relates stories of stamp collecting and stamp dealing the Golden Age of philately when stamp stores were found in many towns across America and the epicenter of the activity was Nassau Street, in Manhattan, NYC.
