Each year our literature group does a WWII unit study. This is the second year we have used this book. My older group, who read the book last year, when they heard that the younger group was reading this book made comments like "you are so lucky," and "I love that book!" The group currently reading it wants to take it home with them each night to read ahead! They are so far ahead from independent reading that they will finish the book way ahead of schedule!

This is a good introduction to the plight of the European communities during the war. The actions of the Danish people toward their Jewish friends and neighbors is also a very good introduction to the holocost.
