The man is ruthless in his goal, she is an innocent along for the ride. Her story begins with her hurt and sees her through her ability to trust again only to find it unwarranted. She is hurt again. The plot tosses them together with him as a smooth operator and her as his pawn. Unwittingly he falls for her and his intent (while still there) is to see his job through and admit his culpability. However, she finds out first. The resulting story proves his ambition and his desire while quelling none of her anger. Thwarted by him at every turn she mistakes the intention and keeps her barriers around her. You will have to read to find the ultimate barrier she places and uses to nearly destroy her one true chance at happiness. That Rome Matthews shows in the book is great as his story is told again in a later book that you will also want to pick up and digest. This is a great single read.
