by Stephen P on December 5, 2012Season 5 of The Simpsons has some absolutely beautiful episodes in terms of the concepts and writing. Here we see The Simpsons in their true heyday; new characters and yet the focus on the main characters who are still pretty three-dimensional, something that was increasingly lost later on. We get the Rosebud episode featuring Mr. Burns and his lost bear, the Halloween episode with Homer's donut, the Vigilante episode ("And as for your grandma, she shouldn't have mouthed off like that!"), other classics. I continue to run risks os self-asphyxiation while laughing out loud at these episodes, almost 20 years later. I showed these to my kids and they agree. The early seasons have real staying power.
