As a long-time English teacher and writing coach, I beleive that "They Say/ I Say: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing" by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein is the single best writing aid I've ever encountered. Its best feature is the template that they provide to help students get a clear picture of the essential nature of an argument and how to frame it. Because it works well with high school students, college kids, and even grad students, I recommend it highly--and buy countless copies to give away to graduating high school seniors, confused undergrads and foreign students who need mentoring. It's a life-saver !
