Counterpoint to Shakespeare
by Jekyll on July 9, 2010The book starts with the battles between the York and Lancaster factions for the crown of England. It ends with the defeat of Richard III at Bosworth Field by Henry Tudor, who joined the houses of York and Lancaster by marrying Edward IV's daughter. The book covers the battles and intrigues in 15th century England. It casts Richard III in a more favorable light than did Shakespeare's play. The play was written during the reign of the Tudors and is very political to make Richard out to be a monster. Recent writings have indicated that Richard was much maligned after his death. This is a lengthy book, but if one enjoys books dealing with English history, it will be very enjoyable.
