better for teens than for me
by GoluxGirl on January 29, 2010I haven't quite finished reading this, but I'm gonna review it anyway. It is fairly well-written, and I enjoyed it up until Abby and Dante start dating, and she discovers his secret. It's a little too obvious for me, but I think I would have liked it a lot more if I'd read it as a young teenager. I haven't read the Twilight books, but I have a feeling Abby and Dante read a lot like Bella and Edward (if less angsty). I think the MacGuffin that Mangum employs is a pretty good device, but again, it's a little obvious. She doesn't over-work it, though, and lets the reader discover things without too much heavy-handed foreshadowing. Despite that, I'm pretty sure I know exactly how it's going to end, and where that final 'surprising' (to Abby, anyway) secret is hidden. It is enjoyable and light, but I don't see myself reading the sequel.
