Wow! By using petroleum products to make huge amounts of fertilizer in order to force-grow ridiculous amounts of corn to use in just about every processed food, we're essentially turning oil into "food". How gross is that? As if we need another reason to wean ourselves from oil.

DK's Eyewitness series is generally very good. This book is particularly fascinating. I bought it for my 6-year-old, but I ended up reading just as much as he does.
