THis is a great book and it takes a solid prespective in how the story is told , it does take a second to get into so give it a chance it is well worth it.

Pressfield is a masterful storyteller. Gates of Fire is historical ficition and is based on 300 Spartan warriors standing between freedom and enslavement at the hands of the Persian army (over 2 million strong) during the Battle of Theropylae in 480 BC. The book is written from the viewpoint of a battlefield survivor. It is so well written that I felt I was listening to a war veteran recounting tales of valor while sitting by the hearth instead of reading a book. Much detail of Spartan life and upbringing in the warrior culture.
All history buffs, fans of good storytelling and miltary enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy this story. The fact that this is based on history makes it all the more impressive.
