~ Required Reading for Bedtime Woes ~ Jun 14, 2007
My daughter got this book when her newborn was about a month old and nobody was getting any meaningful sleep. She read the book, put some of the basic principles into practice and ... voila! ... she had a sleeping baby in just a few days. There is NO BALKING at bedtime for my grandson. He's 1.5 yrs old, knows that the bedtime routine = bedtime. Sometimes he'll babble for 10-15 min. (heard through the monitor) if he isn't quite ready to fall asleep, but he doesn't cry [at bedtime]! I am still awed by his bedtimes: to see how he has taken to the routine, and see how calm and easy bedtime is for him and his parents. I bought this copy for my son's first baby (due in 3 weeks) so they could get a head start. I wish I had had this book when I was having my own babies; it is full of sound theory, great information, and common sense. This book should be required reading for any new parent...I would suggest both parents read it toward end of pregnancy and then read it again after the newborn arrives, and refer to it as the baby develops and gets older.
