Yes, but....

I found the book interesting, but somewhat disquieting in the emphasis on the need for fairly extensive knowledge of the Christian tradition, without an emphasis on the serious questions the academic community has raised on the confusion and inconsistancy that the Bible presents. Admittedly the Bible has been used as the underpinning of the Western Tradition, but much of that traditon has been a horrible mess; heretics burned at the stake, anyone questioning the 'truth' subjected to torture, etc. Might it make more sense to teach "clear reasoning" in the schools, and critical reading skills, before we expose students to the confusion of the oral history/myths of religious writings?
