8vo., First Paperback Edition, pages lightly browning at edges as usual; original pictorial wrappers, a very good, clean copy. Lees-Milne is now recognised as one of the great diarists of the twentieth century. This is the third volume of his wonderful memoirs, covering the years 1946-1947 and carrying the story from the war to the bitterly cold winters of the first years of peace. First editions of the diaries are now scarce. The first paperback editions boast Faber's fine covers designed by Pentagram around illustrations by Christopher Brown. This edition omits the portrait frontispiece present in the first edition (Chatto & Windus, 1983). Now scarce in its own right.
