Two weeks before the election - and presidential candidate Josh Alexander's motorcade is decimated by a terrorist bomb. Alexander survives the attack, although members of his entourage are not so lucky. It appears to be the work of al-Qaeda. But then CIA director Irene Kennedy is presented with classifed information so toxic that she considers destroying it altogether. Instead she summons Mitch Rapp, the one man reckless enough to follow the evidence to its explosive conclusion. Entering the shadowy world of contract killers, Rapp pursues his unseen enemy through the darkest corners of the globe - until finally, back in Washington, the truly shocking truth behind the attempted assassination is revealed, and the fragile pillars of power are shaken to the core.

Another great book by Vince Flynn. Hard to put down once you get into it. Sometimes the stories seem real but even if fiction, they are entertaining.

A Master of Mystery
Mr Flynn's writing has been a favorite of mine since his first book. I love the fact that he uses the same character in all his books. I feel as if I know the character personally. He is a master at intrigue and I will purchase any book to which his name is attached.

Who knew politics could be so exciting? A great story with ruthless criminals, devious politicians, dedicated AND corrupt secret service agents, and a super CIA operative who almost single-handedly uncovers a conspiracy. It seems Mitch's wife had a name after all, Anna, but she was apparently killed off betwen books and he's finished his mourning before this story starts. Another one of those books where you're telling yourself, 'Just one more chapter, then I'll go to bed...'
Publishers Weekly, 2006-12-04 CIA operative Mitch Rapp returns in another taut thriller. With the presidential elections close at hand, it looks a little iffy for Democratic candidates Josh Alexander and running mate Mark Ross, but when a bomb attack on their motorcade leaves Alexander's wife and numerous others dead, the sympathetic vote sweeps the two men to a bittersweet victory at the polls. At first the bombing looks to be the work of al-Qaeda, but evidence soon points to a source much closer to home. Schultz brings a comfortable presence to his reading. Having narrated several of the past Rapp adventures, he is on familiar ground, and it shows. His clear, crisp reading style fits perfectly, beat for beat, with Flynn's straightforward storytelling. His characterizations are distinct and well handled, giving Rapp just the right amount of gruffness, while at the same time providing each of the supporting characters with their own individual voices without using over-the-top accents or vocalizations,. Peter Michalos's fine abridgment keeps the story moving with no apparent sacrifice of character or plot. Simultaneous release with the Atria hardcover (Reviews, Sept. 4). (Nov.) Publishers Weekly, 2006-09-04 Tom Clancy fans who have not yet discovered bestseller Flynn (Consent to Kill) and his maverick, do-whatever-it-takes hero, CIA operative Mitch Rapp, will find this page-turner right up their alley. When an al-Qaeda-style bomb attack on the motorcade of the Democratic presidential candidate, Georgia governor Josh Alexander, in Washington, D.C., a month before the November election kills the candidate's wife and several Secret Service agents, Rapp uses all the tools at his disposal to investigate the claim of the now discredited head of the protective detail that a mysterious figure in a red baseball cap set off the fatal bomb. Rapp soon finds that the motive for the outrage may be personal rather than political. While the underlying plot elements require a great deal of suspended disbelief, Flynn will pull most readers along with his taut writing and plausible vision of the real work of the intelligence community.
