Commissioned by the Venician brotherhood of the School of St. Ursula, these gorgeous paintings done by Vittore Carpaccio tell the story of Saint Ursula. She was born of royal blood, raised a christian, was wed to the son of the king of Angels, Pagano, and on a pilgrimage to Rome, she and eleven thousand virgins were all killed for their "constancy in their faith." Unnumbered, 12 pp introduction with 12 plates following, each with a narrative on the page facing. Gorgeous illustrations in full color, framed on each page by a top layer page with cutout.
