A view of New England slavery

by bscda1 on Aug 20, 2007

The lives of two very different brothers serve as a window into views of slavery, religion, business and public life during this fascinating time in American history. This book brings to life the spirit of the times during this exciting time and helps the reader to understand that period through the eyes of contemporaries instead of through modern eyes with the concomitant distortions. The machinations of Rhode Island politics helps the reader understand the motivations of the Browns and their fellow citizens and how they changed or did not change during their lives. An excellent supplement to other histories of New England during this period.
