Overview: The purpose of this series is to provide students with short vignettes written in board format to review material in the basic sciences. Each book covers a specific topic and covers an array of most commonly seen topics on the boards. This series is not intended to be a complete review, but rather a supplement to course material and other review books. For this reason, it is important to keep the books small (under 125 pages) and inexpensive. Topics covered in the Step one series are: Anatomy, Behavioral Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology: Virology/Immunology/Parasitology (previously named Microbiology I), Microbiology: Bacteriology (previously named Microbiology II), Pathophysiology: Pulmonary System (previously named Pathophysiology I), Pathophysiology: GI System (previously named Pathophysiology II), Pathophysiology: Cardiovascular System (previously named Pathophysiology III), and Pharmacology. incorporate better templated format that reflects a lighter, more systematic approach Trim size will be reduced to 6 x 9 to better fit in a white coat pocket Index included with each book An appendix of lab values with each book Discussion and treatment for each vignette will be included on a separate page for easier self-quizzing Captions at the end of the page will be hidden to facilitate self-quizzing Mnemonics will be added as a separate pedagogical feature 4-color inserts in each book will omit the need for the accompanying color Atlas. Reviewer Quotes: This is a good supplement to second year pathology and preparation for boards and shelf-exams. Perfect for fragmentary reading, while waiting for an elevator or on the minute or two before the lecture starts. Allows the student to capture this time that is otherwise lost for productive use.- MS2, Texas Tech I think that this approach will help me on the USMLE a lot more than studying from a more detailed text. This is much more focused and provides an understanding of clinical cases, unlike most biochemistry lectures. just memorizing a lot of facts. It seems designed for those who want to kill the boards rather than just pass.- MS2, UCLA This book is best used for either studying for the Boards or for class supplementation. In addition, for owners/readers of the First Aid for the USMLE Step 1...the UCV series is an unparalleled complement!! - MS2, Mount Sinai School of Medicine
