Good summary

The author has succeeded in presenting the history of the Third Reich in some 280 pages, where Shirer's excellent history, for example, is more than 1,000 pages. The book was first published in German and the English translation is excellent. A book of this type refers to many people and the author succeeds in telling his story without confusing the reader. The book is not strictly chronological but is organized by subject. There are biographical asides to introduce major participants. The book has two unique advantages. Firstly, the story is told from the German point of view by a German. Secondly, the book includes very many illustrations that demonstrate that a picture is worth a 1000 words. Personally, when reading the book, I was conscious of the author's emphasizing the fact that Hitler was democratically elected in January 1933. Today we still have not solved the problem of how to handle individuals and movements, who use democracy to undermine itself. This book should be compulsory reading!
