Giddens cappacity to extract the main points from three sociologists, and to compare based on the depths of three apparently different theories is amazing. You can approach Durkheim, Weber and Marx very solidly by just reading this book, if you don't have the time or the opportunity to read the works of each.
At the same time, Giddens rescues the essence of marxism, by saying "it is not death, it is not well understood and needs reviewing from modern times and theories".
