For Sir Cecil sets her a seemingly impossible challenge. She must prove that his son Ralph, a pilot in the Great War, really did die in action. Maisie's investigation takes her from the world of the English aristocracy, with its secrets and hidden scandals, to the battlefields of France. Not only must she uncover some difficult family truths, but she must also confront her own past, and the turmoil and love that she experienced as a nurse in the war. PARDONABLE LIES is a brillantly told mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the final pages. It is a wonderful sequel to MAISIE DOBBS and BIRDS OF A FEATHER, and will win Jacqueline Winspear yet more fans.Hide synopsis

I enjoyed this book as I have all of the adventures of Maisie Dobbs. I love the setting of England in the 30s and her way of solving her cases by a lot of leg work.

Everything was perfect: service, condition, and read. Maisie Dobbs, investigator and psychologist, works in post WWI England. The research is superb, I enjoy exploring the history as much as the mystery.

about the era and the main character is finely drawn. Pardonable Lies is the third in a series of four books featuring Maisie Dobbs and the books are best read in sequence as the story follows on from book ...
