I love these period pieces. The warriors are larger than life, and the heroines are progressive for their era. No meek and mild ladies here! I wish I had read the whole lot of "highland" books in order. I started with this one. Kiera is a healer and a seer and escapes danger with her life - barely. In a vision she sees a near dead man and rescues him to save him from certain death. While healing him, she falls for him. But, she has a mission to accomplish. For saving his life, and for his own selfish reasons (he is besotted afterall) he proclaims he will fight her battle for her. Their story is not one of fighting, loving and overcoming another to be together. Theirs is a story of a man who is a true hero to a lady who was his hero first. Their only problem lies in their inability to see their love for what it is. Side characters are all strong and many have their own stories that have shown before this book and after it as well. Look for them all - they are all great tales of warriors, heros and heroines protecting what is theirs and helping others while trying to find the love of their lives. Great first read!
