From an early life of fits and starts, Milton Hershey persevered with a dream to make sweets, and after many years he finally succeeds. He carefully crafts recipes, negotiates deals, buys, sells and trades until he finds the secret method to make his chocolate as good as the Swiss. Milton finally finds time to marry later in life, but they never had any children, thus he bestows a legacy Trust fund to support a chocolate factory, hospital, zoo, school and home for workers and children at the Hershey plantation in central PA. Hershey becomes wealthy but never loses sight of the common man and the needs of his workers and families. It would be a good book for many modern day successful people to read and reflect on where they came from, and what it means to be given great wealth and prosperity, and how to share the blessings with those who are in need. Hershey at first secretly built the town on farm land in Pennsylvania, but later would go on to build a railroad and huge sugar plantation in Cuba to secure reliable supplies of sugar cane. He also became good friends with Henry Ford and had a love for Cuban cigars. Even in Cuba he built the same kind of caring environment for his workers as back in Hershey PA. This is a true rags to riches story that evokes a sense of old world class and responsibility that is hard to find in current day stories of successful people.
