Born Rita Rizzo in Canton, Ohio in 1923, Mother Angelica was abandoned by her father and raised in poverty by a mother who suffered suicidal depressions. As a young woman, after Rita developed severe abdominal pain she sought the prayers of a local mystic and her symptoms disappeared. Awakened to the power of prayer, she vowed to dedicate her life to God and became a cloistered nun. She expected to spend her life hidden from the world, but Rita's faith compelled her to unlikely endeavors, from establishing a monastery in Alabama to starting the world's first Catholic cable network. Raymond Arroyo's engrossing biography traces Mother Angelica's tortured rise to success and exposes for the first time the fierce opposition she faced, inside and outside of her church. It is an inspiring story of survival and proof that one woman's faith can move more than mountains. 10 compact discs/13 hours (approx.)
I found this book well written and enjoyable to read. Since I am a "fan" of Mother Angelica, I found it interesting and enlightening to learn about her early life and the founding of EWTN T-V station.

I have watched Mother Angelica Live on television for years. I find her to be such a wonderful woman of God. She is straight forward and holds no punches. I loved the book. This book only confirmed what I already knew, that Mother Angelica is a great, great, lady.

Not your average Nun.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. Mother Angelica is an inspiration to Catholic America. A rebel that brought to America a new (old) catechism that had been lost to the American Catholic Church. Disobedient Catholic clergy and theologians are beginning to be called on the carpet for their error in teaching because of Mother and others like her. American Catholic laity are no longer satisfied with the watered-down version of the faith. Our eyes need to be focused on the Vatican and the True teaching of the Catholic Church. Mother Angelica has been a light leading the faithful back to that Truth. Her EWTN has been a fire sweeping the country and the world with the Truth of Jesus Christ protected from error through the Pope and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. You won't be able to put this book down. Mother is not the average cloistered nun and Raymond Arroyo is a great story teller.
