Superb modern classic
The books themselves are, of course, well-known as being superbly well written, with a depth of characterisation and plotting that transcends the historical/seafaring genre. They display a dense and multi-layered knowledge of natural history, seafaring at the time of the Napoleonic/American wars and are, as well, wonderfully exciting. This collected edition - that I bought to replace my sadly tattered and much read paperbacks - is of a high standard and attractively presented. If I have a critiscism it is that the paper used is very thin - though good quality - and this can, at times, reduce the physical pleasure of reading. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase.
