A disappointing narrative of the journey

by Vibhav on Jul 6, 2007

When I first saw this book on a shelf in the store I was pretty excited about it. Che Guvara has of-course become the universal symbol of resistance and rebellion, and I thought this would be a good way to look at the lighter side of the man, and also possibility get an insight on the events and thoughts that made him who he was. Overall, I was disappointed with the book. It is a collection of incidents and anecdotes on Che?s part-motorcycle part-hitch-hiking journey through South America. After finishing college, he heads out with a friend on a motorbike with the intent to travel from Argentina all the way to the US. Though the book is funny and engaging at times, it falls short of being inspirational. It is at best a collection of incidents and events in his journey. There is no insight on how the journey shaped and changed the great person that Che was to become, or into his thoughts and opinions. It is at best good for a light read on the plane.
