If you've ever wanted to write a novel, just for the sake of it, "No Plot? No Problem!" is a great motivating tool. The writing is very funny and relevant. If you're looking for a book to teach you how to write an intelligent satire on American popular culture, you're out of luck.

I wrote a novel!

First of all, you don't have to participate in the NaNoWriMo challenge to benefit from this book. It's targeted towards anyone who wants to write a novel. The review below is a bit misleading. This is a wonderful book and it helped me achieve what I thought was impossible, writing a complete novel. I've bought tons of books telling me how to write a novel but none of them motivated me in the manner that this book did. Baty makes it plain and simple: sit down and write until you reach the goal of 50,000 words. If you want your character to be abducted by a UFO, go for it. If your protagonist wants to dance on tables in Paris go for it. Essentially you write in a white heat, allowing the momentum of the novel to propel you along. When you're done, you may have a junky piece of work but it's a rough draft. Something you can flesh out and hone into a fine piece of work if you choose to do so. Now, I didn't do it in 30 days, nor did I reach my daily word quotas. However, having a word quota to reach every day was great motivating factor although sometimes I didn't reach my word quota for weeks at a time but the ultimate goal of writing a 50,000 word novel is what compelled me to continue. I had a clear and definite goal in sight for me to reach. After three months, I had a complete novel in my hands. It's an incredible feeling. I highly recommend this book for any aspiring writer who thinks finishing a novel is impossible. I have many incomplete novels I tried my hand at writing but this is the first time ever I actually completed a full fledged novel.
